Death of Ruairi O Bradaigh

Mick Healy has just informed me of the death of Ruairi O Bradaigh.  I hope to get to the funeral but, in any case, I’ll be running a tribute to him as soon as I can.

In the meantime, there is an interview I did with Ruairi back in 1997, here.

The funeral is at midday Saturday in Roscommon.

  1. RIP

    Great interview you did there!
The view of O’Bradaigh’s politics as being narrow and archaic has become almost a cliche, and its been repeated quite a bit in obits the past few days.
In reality, when you read interviews like this, or the one I posted to my blog, he shows a perceptive, independent analysis of strategy (military and political) not often seen in republicans, and his politics are all his own- more “left” than many are willing to acknowledge too.
A friend recalled how at one RSF meeting someone called Thomas Mac Goilla a sell out- O’Bradaigh rose and roared “He was no sell out! He was always true to his socialist beliefs!” Not the sterotypical “legitamatist” O’Bradaigh!

    A big loss to republicanism
