éirígí launch free northern paper

éirígí have produced, and begun distributing across the north, 40,000 copies of a free special newspaper, Poblacht no Oibrithe (Workers Republic).  The paper provides an in-depth analysis of the Stormont regime and that regime’s inability to deliver any meaningful or effective social, economic or political change to the Six Counties.

Ever since the six-county assembly at Stormont was revived by the British government in 2007, its members have loyally overseen the implementation of anti-working class policies and instigated far-reaching public service cuts at the behest of their Westminster masters. The Stormont executive has consistently demonstrated that it is both unwilling and unable to oppose the anti-working class agendas of, first, the British Labour Party, and, now, the British Tories.

Speaking as party members in Belfast commenced the distribution of the Poblacht na nOibrithe special edition, éirígí’s rúnaí ginearálta Breandán Mac Cionnaith said, “The party took the decision to publish this paper in order to break through what seems to be an unofficial and unwritten policy that is being operated in the Six Counties which prevents public criticism of the Stormont regime.

“This special edition of Poblacht na nOibrithe carries in-depth analyses on the impact of Stormont policies upon communities across the Six Counties. It provides an honest and critical assessment of Stormont and exposes the deception and deceit which all the Stormont parties are perpetrating on Catholics, Protestants and Dissenters alike.

“At present in the Six Counties, a total of 130,000 people are seeking work and almost one in four young people are neither in education, employment or training; social housing shortages are widespread throughout communities; welfare cuts are already underway; child poverty levels are at scandalous levels; much needed public services in education and health are being slashed, and community and voluntary sector organisations are finding themselves under increased pressure.

Poblacht na nOibrithe highlights these and other harsh realities which the Stormont spin-machine does not want to be exposed.  This special edition of Poblacht na nOibrithe will play a valuable role in providing an alternative political commentary for many people while giving an uncensored platform for éirígí and socialist republicanism. It also signals a major intent by our members and activists in the Six Counties to enhance the party’s profile and further develop our support base.”

As well as being widely available in hard copy, the Poblacht na nOibrithe paper will also be made available online in the near future.
